Vinegar for Hair Growth
Apple cider vinegar for hair growth. I had no clue that is what I was doing to my hair when I 'conditioned' my hair with vinegar every week as a girl. Conditioner was a luxury my parents didn't buy, so we used vinegar. Plus the fact that I grew up in a very conservative lifestyle where you didn't cut your hair.
I would get so frustrated because I had these ultra THICK hip length hair that were a MESS to comb out after washing them. And apple cider vinegar did the trick. Made them smooth and manageable... it made my hair shiny and flowy. (is that even a word?? *smile*)But I didn't know till YEARS later that I was only HELPING my hair get thicker and healthier by using vinegar on them! Now at 43, my stylist tells me I have some of the thickest hair she cuts. Note Vinegar also restores natural pH so it fixes itchy scalps if you suffer from that.
How to Use Vinegar for Hair There are several ways to use vinegar for hair as a natural hair home remedy, but the easiest and most efficient way ( in my opinion) is to fill the sink or a bowl with water and add about a cup of vinegar, then let your hair soak in it for a few minutes. I always hung my head in far enough for the water to soak my scalp as well. Rinse really good with warm water after soaking it in vinegar.
You can also just rinse your hair with vinegar water or even pour vinegar directly on your hair, the same as you would any conditioner and then rinse.
Don't worry about the smell, it fades away after your hair dries. Serious, it does!
You can also just keep a container of vinegar in the shower for quick and easy use on your hair. Some folks prefer to keep the vinegar in a spray bottle and that way you can spray your hair with however much you want without wasting as much of the vinegar, before the final rinse on your hair.
How OFTEN Can I Use Vinegar on my Hair You can pretty much experience with your hair as everyone's hair is different. I did it once a week when I was a girl, and yup, it was because I only WASHED my hair once a week. *grin* But twice a week works well for most people.
You can mix essential oils with the vinegar for hair growth remedy to add a fragrance to your hair, but BE CAREFUL what kind of oils you use, as some essential oils can irritate your skin. Lavendar is a pretty safe oil to use on skin and hair and smells pretty good. Also, stay away from the cheaper synthetic oils when adding them to ANY home remedy.
Simple Vinegar and Oil Conditioner Recipe These ingredients makes a fair sized batch that you will want to store in a glass bottle as sometimes the oils react to plastic.
Ingredients
- Vinegar - 2 cups
- 10 drops of oil (suggested oils to use for hair rinse: lavendar, lemon, rosemary, or patchouli)
Directions
- Mix the vinegar and oils well and let sit for a few days to allow the "flavors' to blend.
- When ready to use, mix 1 Tablespoon of vinegar/ oils mixture per cup of water, and keep in a spray bottle. (This can actually be kept in plastic if you plan to use it regularly)
- Spray on your hair and rinse or for additional conditioning effect, just spray on your hair and towel dry.
