Sun Burn Cures and Home Remedies

There are a TON of sun burn cures and home remedies that people have used with success. Blistering and burning after a weekend on the water or at the beach has caused a few people to try some pretty odd sun burn cures.

One gal dumped Dr. Pepper over herself and declared it gave her relief from her sunburns! Hopefully one of these home remedies for sun burns will work for you and next time, make yourself some homemade sun screen to wear before you go to the beach! Also, before you apply any of these remedies to your burning skin, take a cool shower to cool your skin down a bit and get all the heat out. Sometimes just a cold shower will greatly relieve the burning as the heat leaves your body.

CAUTION! Do not apply anything with oils/fats to your sunburn as it can actually increase the burn and drive it deeper.

Sun Burn Home Remedies

Here is a list of remedies that people have tried that have worked. Most of these things are simple things that you have in your fridge or pantry already. Please feel free to come back and tell us what worked for you! :)

  • Apple cider vinegar sun burn cure...RATED NUMBER ONE!

Put the vinegar (full strength) in a spray bottle and spray it all over your burnt skin. Use as often as needed.

The vinegar doesn't smell very good, but it sure feels good, and is the best treatment for sun burn I have ever used myself!

A big plus with using vinegar for your sunburn is that you can SPRAY it on rather than rubbing it onto your skin.

  • Mustard for sunburn... same as the vinegar. Slather some on your burn. The mustard is a bit messier and doesn't smell any better!

  • Shaving cream for sunburns...take a shower and cover your sun burn with shaving cream. End of sun burn.

  • Tomatoes for sunburn...Squeeze all the juice out of the tomato and rub gently onto the burn.

You can also slice the tomato into thin slices and just lay it on your skin if you're lying down.

  • Udder Cream for sunburns... this is a farmer's cream but works well on burns or diaper rashes.

You can get the 'udder cream' in most any drugstore, I believe. Or also at a farm and feed store.

Other diaper rash ointments or creams are great sun burn cures. In fact, they are a great healing cream, better than most of the creams you can buy that are for sunburns.

  • Egg whites for sunburn separate the yoke from the whites of the egg and use only the egg white. It will kinda dry on your skin after awhile, and if it starts pulling your skin, just shower off and re-apply.

  • Honey for sunburn... raw honey works wonders for burns, and a sunburn is no different.

Make sure all the heat has left the burn and then smear the honey all over it. Your body heat will make the honey runny, so don't put it on too thick.

  • Milk of Magnesia for sunburn... put it on before going to bed. It will dry and you can sleep with it.

Shower it off in the morning and if you need to re-apply it, do so, but very likely you won't.

  • Baking soda bath for sunburn... pour a box of baking soda in a tub of lukewarm water and soak in it for awhile.

You will sleep like a baby and your burns won't blister.

There are more sunburn treatments, I am sure, but that should give you some things to try!

The apple cider vinegar treatment is, hands down, the best sun burn cure we have found so far, so make sure you try that one. :)
