Sore Throat Home Remedies
Some of the most simple sore throat home remedies include gargling with hot salt water, drinking apple cider vinegar or honey water and... even wrapping a large cabbage leaf around your neck.
There are several types and causes of sore throat though, so keep that in mind as you look for the right natural sore throat remedy for your needs. Quite often the cause of a sore throat comes from the cold or flu bug which then turns into an infection if not treated soon enough, but another common reason for a sore throat is stress.
Believe it or not, quite often that first sign of a tickle in the throat can be a sign of stress, and simply slowing down, taking some deep breaths, drinking some tea and getting more sleep will be the best sore throat home remedy you can get.
Some of the common causes of sore throat are:
- Infections (Bacterial or Viral)
- Colds and flus
- Mumps, Tonsillitis, sinus infections
- Excessive Smoking
- Stress
- Leukemia
- Shouting... you may want to remind your hubby of that next time he complains of a sore throat after a big game... :-)
Sore Throat Home Remedies:
- Salt water...Mix 2 T salt with half a glass of hot water and gargle as often as you wish to during the day.
- Chamomile tea make a tea of 1 tsp chamomile blossoms to a cup of hot water. Drink several times a day. Very good home remedy for sore throat.
- Garlic,Honey,Cayenne Mixture... Crush 4 cloves garlic, add several Tablespoons of honey and 1/8 tsp cayenne, mix well and take a tsp of the concoction several times a day to help sooth sore throat.
- Cumin Seed Tea If you have a sore throat that might be connected to a sinus infection, try this tea.
Add a tsp of cumin seeds to a cup of boiling water and let steep for about 10 minutes. Drink about 4 cups a day. I have killed sinus infections that were so bad I thought I had a rotting tooth... with this tea.
- Tumeric, Honey, Salt... mix 1/2 tsp honey, 1/2 tsp tumeric powder and 1 tsp salt with a cup of warm water and gargle twice a day.
- Take a heaping spoonful of honey add a dash of cayenne and sip on it for a soothing throat remedy.
- Soak a wash cloth in rubbing alcohol ...wet, but not dripping wet, wrap it around your neck, lie down and relax. Wear it to sleep at night.
Sounds like a crazy sore throat cure but just make sure you have an old towel to sleep on and other than the smell, it shouldn't be too bad.
- Ukranian Cabbage Leaf Method... You won't want to take a walk in the park with this one, but hey, at least you don't have to SWALLOW anything!
Wrap a cabbage leaf around your neck, tie it on with a rag or something. It is supposed to draw out the infection and pain.
The leaf will go limp, once it's properties are used up. Simply replace with a new leaf and any cabbage leaves will do.
MY FAVORITE SORE THROAT HOME REMEDIES:
- Apple Cider Vinegar... I swear by apple cider vinegar!
Mix a drink of half a cup of apple juice and about 3 T apple cider vinegar. Drink it all down. Add 1/8 tsp baking soda to kill the bite of the vinegar. the baking soda sorta carbonates the drink and makes it feel really good to the sore throat!
Or simply gargle with the apple cider vinegar. Let it go deep down your throat and don't worry if you swallow a small bit. It is NASTY stuff to swallow plain but won't kill you!
- Tea with honey... use any tea you prefer, add a bunch of honey and a bit of lemon juice.
Drink as much tea as you can. The honey will sooth the throat and the tea helps flush the toxins from your body.
