Dandruff Home Remedies
- Lemon Peels and Coconut Oil... Cut up some lemon peels and stuff into a glass bottle of coconut oil.
Let the mixture sit in the sun for about 10 days. Drain and use the oil in your hair. This home remedy has been known to fix the dandruff problem in a short time.
- Vinegar for Dandruff... apple cider vinegar as a home remedy works for MANY common ailments and dandruff is no exception.
Wash your hair with a mild shampoo first (it doesn't matter if it is a dandruff shampoo or not).
Mix the apple cider vinegar and warm water about half and half. You can use a lesser mixture for lesser degrees of dandruff.
Add a few drops of essential oils such as lavendar, lemongrass or rosemary to make it smell good, and pour the mixture over your hair.
You can use a spritz bottle too, if you want, and spray it on your hair, but you want to get a good amount into your hair.
Leave the vinegar mixture in your hair for about 15 minutes, gently massaging your hair every few minutes or so, to loosen dandruff flakes.
Helpful Tip: The vinegar for hair treatment also conditions your hair, prevents hair loss, and restores the pH balance of your hair, so don't be afraid to spray some on your hair, LEAVE it in and simply towel dry. The vinegar smell goes away after your hair dries.
Use the apple cider vinegar for dandruff method about once a week for best results.
- Henna for Dandruff... there are a variety of Henna conditioners and hair products you can use, but if you simply want to use the natural powdered henna for dandruff, here is a simple way to do that.

Henna can actually kill head lice, ring worm AND dandruff.
But be careful and wise when using henna on your hair as it also CAN DYE YOUR HAIR!
Mix a bit of the henna powder with curd, and add a few drops of lemon juice.
Apply the curd mixture to your hair for half an hour or so and then rinse or re-shampoo with a mild shampoo.
Here is a great article on how Henna works and how to work WITH it.
- Baking soda for dandruff... you can mix the baking soda to your shampoo. (just mix some into the dollop of shampoo in your hand) and leave the shampoo in your hair till it burns before rinsing it.
They say if the baking soda doesn't burn, it's not working. I don't know on that, but it's worth a try as it is a pretty harmless home remedy dandruff cure!
- Aspirin for dandruff...Don't swallow it, simply crush a few aspirin and mix with your shampoo to help kill dandruff.
We'd love to hear what YOUR best home remedy is for hair care.... or your worst!☺
